“I am creating a space of dichotomy as an answer to the sensibilities of perception in the environment. The response of experiencing the surroundings is mirrored in the relationship that is created between an object and a subject. It is within this that I am exploring the interrelation of freedom and captivity, presentness and absentness, and shelter and exposure. At the same time, I bring awareness to the fragility of social structures and relationships in contemporary society.”——Kristina Rutar

Kristina Rutar tries to explore the intimate relationship between people through her works, reinterpreting reality in an abstract form. Her inspiration generally comes from body parts. Through the observation of human behavior, she uses sculpture as a medium to show the most primitive state of human beings. She broke the traditional concept of ceramics and understood the object itself in a conceptual rather than technical sense.

Currently, Rutar lives and works in Ljubljana. In addition to creating sculptures and prints, she is also an assistant professor at the Academy of Art and Design, majoring in ceramics. During this period, she insisted on exploring more possibilities of ceramic forms, constantly creating unique works. She won the II. Latvia International Ceramics Biennal, Martinson’s award in 2018, and the following year, she also won the 4th Cluj Ceramics Biennale, Cluj, Romania. At the same time, Rutar also carried out many solo and group exhibitions.

For Rutar, the human body is her main creative motivation. The human body is constantly changing in symbolic meaning and form. Through physical perception, a prototype, basic form is created. These spontaneous and energetic forms, with dream-like shapes, endow individuals with power and freedom, and create personal experiences through associations and fantasy. Her works convey tranquility and make people unable to help thinking about the relationship between multiple objects. , Is like a certain relationship between people and people, things and things, people and things.
